Stats

Much like statistics play a big part in The Wire, they also play a big part in today's society. In the show the wire, statistics are what the police force seem to live by, statistics on drugs, statistics on murders, it's all there. What they don't see are the real people and situations behind these numbers. This relates back to our society too, statistics can sometimes determine the face of a city, high statistics of crime can be a set back to a city, without seeing what lies beyond, all the good things and efforts a city can offer, much like West Baltimore

Finishing "The Wire"

We have now finished the final episode of 'The Wire' Upon finishing the season my views on certain aspects of the series has changed. At the start I was a bit confused as to what was going on other than drug deals and police raids, coming the end I was still a little confused but but have the general idea and details, and came to know the various themes. Overall I fouind this series to be very thought provoking and has opened my eyes to see what's beneath the surface, to find the hidden meanings

Jimmy Mcnulty

My first impressions of Jimmy Mcnulty... He plays a stern character in The Wire, but it seems his lack of respect for authority has got him disliked by higher authorities in the department, away from the policing he also seems to have more problems, for instance his alcohol consumption, and ongoing problems regarding child support and custody of his young boy. All in all i think the character is played very well and throughout the seasons I think we come to know him better and watch him change as the case of the narcotics rages.

West Baltimore (Set of "The Wire")

The T.V. show "The Wire" was filmed on location in the streets of Baltimore, mainly the western side. This helps convey the main theme of realism, by the area being inhabited by a large amount of drug activity and violence. This ties in together by being shot in an area of low socio-economic community. The area of West Baltimore is made up of quite run down old suburbs with many of the streets undertaking in drug related and other crime related activies.

Homework!!

So here's my first ever blog... I said I'd never create one but here I am making one for English homework. The topic of this entry you may ask? Well it's pretty extreme, what we did in our first English class of this year. We had our little intro into the year coming, and we had to write a piece on the greatest 'text' we had ever 'read'. It didn't have to be a book so being that I'm not a great fan of novels I did mine on the game 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' which is awesome. So that raps up my first English class for the year. Stay tuned as this will probably end up being homework quite often.
